"A GOD AT HAND"

With power, atomic and otherwise, so much to the fore in present-day councils of men, it is remarkable that humanity concedes so little consideration to God, the greatest power of all, indeed, the ultimate and only power. Timid diffidence and ignorance of God's true nature prevent mankind from turning to Deity for help in the affairs of everyday life.

In the Bible we read (Jer. 23: 23,24): "Am I a God at hand, saith the Lord, and not a God afar off?... Do not I fill heaven and earth?" Clearly a God filling all space must be infinite Spirit, and so He must be not only afar off but right at hand in everyday life. To appreciate His presence and influence, mankind need to know much more of the real nature of God; and Christian Science, elucidating the Scriptures, supplies this need.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 465), "God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love." Any one of these seven synonyms, prefixed by "infinite," suffices to dispel any lingering concept of God as corporeal or as less than the supreme power and intelligence readily available in everyday life.
