REJECTING THE INVERTED IMAGE

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE demands of its followers that they reject the mortal picture of man as he appears to the physical senses and know him only as the spiritual senses reveal him: the immortal reflection of God. This is a radical demand, but it must be obeyed if the Science of manhood is to be demonstrated and the truth of everyone's selfhood is to rule out an inverted sense of it.

The world is beginning to see that the Bible states a great scientific fact when it describes man in the first chapter of Genesis as made in the image and likeness of God. When this is understood, the door of heaven opens. The sorrowing, the maimed, and the sick are healed, poverty gives place to plenty, the sinful are restored to the dignity of self-respect.

In the Science of God and man, both are seen to be perfect. Those who are rejecting the inversion of the truth—a manlike God and a mortal man—may not find it always easy to make the change. They are pioneers in the work of perceiving Father and son as they actually exist in Science. But the pioneers must do their work. They must go against the current of general belief and prove the world to be wrong in its estimate of both creator and creation. Because this proof has been achieved in the vast number of healings which Christian Science has brought about, one should feel encouraged that the human race is well on its way to beholding God and man as they appear to spiritual sense.
