MAN'S SPIRITUAL IDENTITY
UPON entering her room one night and before switching on the light, a student of Christian Science identified a lovely rose in a vase through the rich fragrance it gave forth. She thought that an artificial rose in the same vase might deceive one for a moment until its lack of fragrance exposed its counterfeit nature. Just so, she reasoned, a wrong concept of man as a mortal afflicted with sin or disease may deceive one until he awakens to the understanding of man's scientific and spiritual identity as a child of God.
In Christian Science we learn that God is divine Principle, Love, and that man is His reflection. Thus man expresses Love, radiates Life, and manifests Mind. Indeed, man, the image and likeness of God, is the perfect embodiment of God's qualities.
Just as the perfume of the rose tells of the presence of the rose, so man reflecting God's nature makes manifest the eternal, tender presence of God. Man can be identified only with his origin, and therefore he gives forth only purity, joy, humility, love, health, and other Godlike qualities.
