Signs of the Times

Rev. R. Barclay Warren in The Kingston Whig-Standard Kingston, Ontario, Canada

Many ideas about health were expressed during Health Week.... There was an increasing emphasis on prevention of illness. This is fine. But the best I have seen on it is in Paul's letter to the Philippians, chapter 4. He writes, "Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say. Rejoice." ...

Paul presents an alternative to worry. He says, "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." When you are worrying you are not praying. Note the ingredient of thanksgiving in this praying. Everyone has so much for which to be thankful. Express your gratitude as you pray. Then "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
