In the hope that this may be of help to others and because I owe a debt of gratitude for all the wonderful testimonies that have inspired me, I gratefully submit this account of a healing which came about while I was earnestly trying to do my part in church work.

About nine years ago I received an appointment to serve as an usher in our branch of The Mother Church. My first reaction was one of much pleasure; but then came the discouraging suggestion that I would not be able to accept this appointment, because I was still trying, with the steadfast help of a Christian Science practitioner, to work out a problem that had almost completely incapacitated me.

The condition had been diagnosed as arthritis by a physician who had been called in compliance with the requirements of my employers. I had even had to learn to walk again and was still rather uncertain on my feet. I began to wonder why our executive board had chosen this time to send me the appointment. I was sure they always sought divine guidance for anything pertaining to church activities; so how could they have made such a mistake in this case?
