DISEASE UNREAL

To those unfamiliar with Christian Science the statement that disease is unreal seems abstract, even untrue, and they look upon those making such absolute statements as being unrealistic or else as purveyors of fairy tales. However, when the truth of the statement that disease is unreal can be demonstrated, as it has been and is being done in thousands of authentic cases of Christian Science healing, the viewpoint of the skeptic alters. This Science analyzes disease and finds it to be unreal—an illusion of the material senses, without factual foundation and with no actual power to harm.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 417): "To the Christian Science healer, sickness is a dream from which the patient needs to be awakened. Disease should not appear real to the physician, since it is demonstrable that the way to cure the patient is to make disease unreal to him."

And on page 229 of the same book, Mrs. Eddy gives us the key to Christian Science healing in these words: "The remedy is Truth, not matter,—the truth that disease is unreal." This thesis of the unreality of sickness is what makes Christian Science healing distinctive and unique in the modern field of treating disease.
