RIGHT REASONING

In working out a problem in mathematics, one would not knowingly use a mistake as the basis for his calculations. So it is in our application of Christian Science: the error which needs correcting must not be harbored in thought but must be replaced with the truth regarding the situation. Mary Baker Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 492), "For right reasoning there should be but one fact before the thought, namely, spiritual existence."

Spiritual existence is the only real existence. There can be no other existence for anyone or anything. That which the material senses report as being or happening is only a mistaken concept which even mortal mind concedes to be fleeting and unpredictable. Lacking the substance of Spirit and the constancy of Principle, objectifications of false consciousness fade away.

That which is spiritual and therefore imperishable is untouched and unaffected by mortal testimony, just as the sun and moon and stars are untouched and unaffected by mists and clouds. Recognition of the unvarying goodness of true being brings harmonious manifestations into our present experience in place of inharmony.
