THE SERENITY OF REFLECTION

Mary Baker Eddy discovered a profoundly important fact when she saw that man is God's reflection. For reflection implies a derivative, that which is inseparable from its original. The knowledge of man as Spirit's reflection corrects the false belief that he is a mortal, that he has entity apart from his source, that he can become disturbed, and that he can possess character and purpose unrelated to God.

In Christian Science it is clear that man is altogether what God, divine Mind, knows him to be. In fact, God's knowing is the only creative activity. Man is Mind's expression, and he emanates perpetually from Mind as its idea. Then man is effect, not cause. And he is one with his source, as the sunbeam is one with the sun. He shines with the clear and steady light of spiritual purity. His nature is serene.

Mrs. Eddy explains the result of man's relationship to God in Science in this simple statement (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 470): "God is the creator of man, and, the divine Principle of man remaining perfect, the divine idea or reflection, man, remains perfect."
