SEEING AND LOVING MAN

Christ Jesus unfolded magnificent vistas of Christian accomplishment when he said (John 13:35), "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." Clearly, his words point to a kind of living that will attract all men to the Christ. Just as clearly, his statement reminds us that love is both the test and the proof of discipleship.

The basis of Christian Science is the oneness and allness of God. He is the only creator, the sole Mind and Principle of being. Consistently with this premise, this Science teaches that man is the idea of God, the individualized expression of the infinite One.

Christian Science distinguishes clearly between man in the likeness of God and the material caricature of man called a mortal personality. It teaches that the latter is not real. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 507), "Infinite Mind creates and governs all, from the mental molecule to infinity." Presently she continues, "Mortal sense inverts this appearing and calls ideas material."
