During the period of my captivity as a prisoner in the Second World War, I contracted arthritis of the spine, a disease which rendered me unfit for any work. I was pronounced incurable, and I suffered greatly. On my return to France thirteen years ago I was healed of this condition simply through reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. A subsequent X-ray picture showed nothing wrong.

My daughter, who is not a Christian Scientist, had a serious condition in her throat. In accordance with a doctor's advice, an operation had been decided upon. When I went to visit my daughter, she was in a hospital. I did not discuss Christian Science with her, but later, while I was traveling, I suddenly realized the perfection of man as God's perfect child. When I next saw my daughter, she told me that she had been healed without an operation a very short time after I had left. Neither she, the doctor, nor the staff could explain what had happened.

My wife had a very bad fall in which she apparently dislocated one or more vertebrae. Being in great pain, she took to her bed. One morning when the suffering was at its worst, she pondered some of the truths of Christian Science. Suddenly she found herself healed; and she got up and dressed herself. She regained her lost appetite and felt better than she ever had.
