While I was suffering from a nervous collapse because of my unhappiness over world conditions during World War II, my father asked me to try Christian Science. I agreed and consulted a practitioner, who recommended that I begin immediately the study of the Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly. Earnestly I applied myself each day. With joy I can say that finally "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding" (Phil. 4:7) filled my heart, and I was free. Many times since then I have felt such great joy and gratitude that I consider it selfish of me to keep my happiness to myself.

By holding firmly to the reality of God's allness and to the nothingness of matter, I have had healings which were immediate. But at other times difficulties have resisted stubbornly my affirmations of truth until I searched my thinking and corrected the errors which I found there. An outstanding healing was that of an extremely painful and swollen knee. One night I became so discouraged that I almost despaired of healing. I opened a copy of "Christian Healing" by Mrs. Eddy, and as I read I saw myself so clearly as in reality the spiritual idea of God that the pain vanished immediately. The swelling diminished gradually after the pain had left.

With a deeper understanding of Christian Science came a greater love for all mankind, and my appreciation of nature's beauty became so enhanced that my joy knew no bounds. My desire to express this appreciation was fulfilled when I began painting landscapes. My paintings were soon praised by critics and respected artists, and in a short time they began to be purchased.
