Progressive Steps

As church members turn thought prayerfully to ways in which they can increase the activity and usefulness of their churches, many ideas unfold, and we are glad to share some of these with our readers throughout the Field. Of course, each branch must necessarily achieve its progress in the way which best meets its particular circumstances. In "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes (p. 232), "The right way wins the right of way, even the way of Truth and Love whereby all our debts are paid, mankind blessed, and God glorified."

One branch church found the following procedure helpful:

"The board of trustees invites a small group of church members to meet with it at the first board meeting of each month. About eight members are invited, and the ideas expressed have been very helpful. These meetings have also served as a clearinghouse for any questions in the thought of the members which they may not feel free to ask in a membership meeting. The board has felt that by giving each one the opportunity to express himself, a closer bond has been established between the board and the membership. Much good has resulted from this practice."
