"HEALED IS THY HARDNESS"

"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise" (Ps. 51:17). It is necessary for each individual to be willing in humility to yield to Truth without reservation and to welcome that change of thought and life which gives evidence of the kingdom of God, the reign of harmony within. We must all be able to say to ourselves in the words of one of the hymns in the Christian Science Hymnal (No. 278), "Healed is thy hardness. His love hath dissolved it."

The earnest student of Christian Science is constantly examining his thought in order that he may remove the stumbling blocks in his path Spiritward. He sees that he must give ready and thorough response to divine Principle and faithful obedience to the laws of God. He begins to understand that God, Spirit, is the only Mind, the only Life, Truth, Love, and that man, God's spiritual image and likeness, is the effect of this great and only cause and therefore the true and obedient reflection of Soul, divine intelligence.

Here is the truth of being, the inseparability of Mind and idea, cause and effect. This truth admits of no hardness of heart, no interference, no rebellion, no disloyalty. Anything that resists or rebels against the divine direction is due to the supposition of another mind, a false self, called mortal mind.
