DIVINE PROTECTION

Christian Science teaches us that God is All-in-all and that there is no power apart from Him; that God is Spirit and that man, His image and likeness, is spiritual. Therefore safety is always present, and man is always safe, because he reflects divine power. Protection is not a defense against something real; it is the effect of one's positive awareness of God's allness and ever-presence.

It is true that there is need for protection in human experience. This is because mankind have not learned the value and power of spiritual understanding. It is in the measure of our realization of our true, spiritual selfhood that we are able to demonstrate a state of safety as always present, no matter where we are or in what predicament we find ourselves.

Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, on page 475 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" gives us a statement which shows man to be the embodiment of spiritual ideas. In answer to the question, "What is man?" she says in part: "Man is idea, the image, of Love; he is not physique. He is the compound idea of God, including all right ideas." Man, God's perfect likeness, includes the spiritual idea of everything. The constant and active awareness and utilization of these spiritual ideas in one's experience constitute spirituality, a state of thought which ensures protection.
