Many years ago an uncle came...

Many years ago an uncle came to our home and told us about Christian Science. It had healed him of an incurable disease, and he became one of the early workers for the Cause and spent many years in its service. I became interested in this religion at once, for my early religious training had not met my needs. I soon found Christian Science to be a religion which is both practical and inspiring.

During a certain period in my life I was subject to spells of faintness said to be inherited. When I was a schoolteacher, one of these attacks made it necessary for me to leave my work. I turned to the Bible for help and read from Isaiah (40:31), "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Almost at once I was free, and to the amazement of those about me, I was able to return to my classroom.

At another time, when I was Second Reader of a Christian Science Society, the First Reader and I met to practice reading the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly. As we were reading I became too faint to continue the work. The First Reader turned to page 578 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and read Mary Baker Eddy's spiritual interpretation of the twenty-third Psalm. As I grasped the meaning of the statement, "[Love] restoreth my soul [spiritual sense]," I had an instantaneous healing, which has been permanent, and for this healing I express much gratitude.
