RADIO PROGRAM No. 189 - Getting Along with Others

Speaker: The ability to get along with others certainly seems to be a basic need in homes, in neighborhoods, and even among nations. Also business surveys show that getting along with others sometimes seems at least as important as technical know-how. In fact, many business organizations are employing specialists in human relations in an attempt to solve the problems of personality clashes, frictions, and misunderstandings.

Our guest found a right solution to this problem, a solution which blessed everyone concerned. A great deal can be learned from his experience; so we are going to ask him to tell us about it. I'd like you to meet David Sleeper of Dallas, Texas.

Mr. Sleeper: At the time this happened I was with an oil exploration company. I was secretary and treasurer and sort of a right-hand man to the president, as well as a part owner of the business. I handled quite a few responsibilities, and I was enjoying them. Then we brought in a new man for one of the top executive posts, and very soon we had trouble on our hands. Other officials began to complain about him and his methods, and soon I also fell into this pattern. I began to feel he was upsetting morale and hurting the company. Then I realized that he was robbing me of many of my responsibilities. I felt I had plenty of justification to resent him and his methods. It was one of those situations where everything seemed to be wrong with the other fellow.
