"MAN GREATLY BELOVED"

When Jesus was baptized by John in Jordan, it is reported that as he came up out of the water a voice from heaven announced (Matt. 3:17), "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." In this way God revealed to human consciousness the true status of Jesus as the Christ or divine idea of God. The declaration also constituted a message to humanity of the God-crowned mission of Jesus.

The human Jesus was so imbued with the Christ that the two words "Jesus" and "Christ" are often conjoined in usage. The same Christ that Jesus taught and practiced is also available for us, and to the degree that we emphasize the Christ in our lives we too are at one with Christ, Truth.

According to Christian Science, the Christ is the eternal power of God which is ever at hand. This power, as it is recognized and demonstrated, reforms individual character and will continue to do this until we all have awakened to the fact that each one of us in reality is and always has been the beloved child of God. Through the process by which God molds our thinking, we find improved human situations, improved health, happiness, and prosperity.
