KNOWLEDGE OF SALVATION

Soon after the writer's first healing in Christian Science, while waiting one day for a streetcar, she was approached by a woman who asked in a solemn voice if she was saved. Somewhat startled by the question, the writer replied joyously that indeed she was! Questioned further as to why she seemed so happy and so sure about it, explained briefly that after a weary search for health and for a God she could understand and love, she had found them through the truth revealed in a book entitled "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. The writer added that not only was the study of this textbook helping her to understand the Bible better, but a glimpse of the truth revealed there had just healed her of a so-called incurable disease, thus pointing out through signs following the way to a full salvation.

It was not long after that conversation that the writer read Mrs. Eddy's Message to The Mother Church for 1902 where she tells that after writing her book she waited on God for six weeks for a name for it. Finally, in the silence of night, the words "Science and Health" came to her thought, and she rose to record them. Six months later, a friend brought her a copy of Wycliffe's translation of the New Testament and pointed out to her the same phrase, "Science and Health," which is rendered in the Authorized King James Version as "knowledge of salvation." It was Mrs. Eddy's first inkling of Wycliffe's use of that phrase and of its interpretation. The textbook, Science and Health, gives us in this age the exact knowledge of how to work out our own salvation as God requires of us, with signs following.

In Jesus' time, true Christianity was tested by its divine power over sickness as well as over sin. Today, with the help of the Bible and Science and Health, students of Christian Science throughout the world bear witness to their growing understanding of the ever-presence of Christ's healing power by demonstrating over error of every kind.
