My wife and I found Christian Science after World War I, and after we had been studying it for just a short time, I had occasion in my own experience to see the truth relating to cause and effect. For some time I had been worried and fearful over business difficulties which followed the period of inflation in our country after the war. One day I was taken ill and was obliged to go to bed. A doctor diagnosed the condition as pleurisy.

We had attended a few Wednesday evening testimony meetings in a Church of Christ, Scientist, and had become acquainted with a practitioner; so I decided to seek help in Christian Science. Since it was very difficult for me to walk, my wife ordered a taxi and helped me into it, but I went alone to the practitioner.

When he asked me what the trouble was, I simply said that I was in pain. After an interval of silence it suddenly occurred to me to mention my business difficulties. We discussed them thoroughly, and the practitioner made helpful statements of scientific truth.
