RADIO PROGRAM No. 180 - God's Promises Are Kept

Speaker: The Bible is filled with illustrations of God's power and His willingness to help us in time of need. Our guest's experience is another illustration of God's ever-present help. I would like to introduce Harold M. Shafer of Pasadena, California. When did this experience take place, Mr. Shafer?

Mr. Shafer: This was about eighteen or twenty years ago. Apparently some gas had accumulated in the furnace in our home. When I tried to light the pilot, there was a blinding flash of flame. It exploded right in my face. For a moment I didn't know exactly what to do. There was considerable pain, and I was unable to see. My wife was upstairs, and I groped my way to her. She immediately called a Christian Science practitioner, who started treatment by prayer.

My wife and I began declaring aloud many inspiring statements from the Bible and from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. These sustained us through the minutes immediately after the explosion when the pain seemed so great. My face was seriously burned, and the appearance was frightening. But within three hours after calling the practitioner, all pain had stopped. Within four or five days I regained my eyesight and was almost back to normal. Very soon the flesh was entirely restored, and new skin had formed over the whole facial area. No scars or blemishes remained, and my sight was normal. We had used no medication whatsoever.
