I feel it is my privilege and duty...

I feel it is my privilege and duty to give this testimony in gratitude to God, who has healed me of much sin and sickness. I was brought up by loving parents who lived on a farm, and I was taught from early childhood to be obedient to the Ten Commandments. In my early twenties, however, I went to the city. Here I engaged in worldly pursuits, and my religion was crowded entirely out of thought. As a result I suffered much torment.

Then I asked God what I must do, and these comforting words came to me from the Bible (Isa. 1:18): "Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool." Also this wonderful promise came to me (Hebr. 13:5) : "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."

Later, thanks to God's tender mercy, I was led to the teachings of Christian Science. After much study and the loving help of a practitioner, through repentance and reformation I was completely healed of worldliness as well as of self-condemnation. Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in Science and Health (p. 5) : "Sin is forgiven only as it is destroyedby Christ,—Truth and Life. If prayer nourishes the belief that sin is cancelled, and that man is made better merely by praying, prayer is an evil. He grows worse who continues in sin because he fancies himself forgiven."
