An experience that occurred over...

An experience that occurred over ten years ago remains vivid in memory as proof of what we read in Isaiah (65:24), "And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer." One Sunday morning at a service in a Church of Christ, Scientist, the word "power" stood out particularly to me as though it had some special significance. The word occurred during the audible repetition of the Lord's Prayer and its spiritual interpretation, given to us by Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." The close of the prayer, "For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever," has this interpretation (p. 17): "For God is infinite, all-power, all Life, Truth, Love, over all, and All." I pondered these two statements as I walked home.

That afternoon I took a weekend guest for a drive along a scenic highway. At dusk, as we were returning to the city, I started to make a left turn into a side road. A car approaching from the rear at terrific speed skirted my car on the left, swung in front of it, and came to a stop on the right, only the fenders having touched.

Strange as it seemed to the occupants of the other car, who, though frightened, were safe and unharmed, neither my companion nor I had experienced the slightest tremor of fear, but all agreed that a serious accident had been averted. I knew that what we had experienced was the protecting power of divine Love. This experience alone, were there no others, would be proof enough to me that the Christian Science movement, with its church services, periodicals, lectures, and all other provisions of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy, has but one function, and that is to bless.
