VISION REQUISITE FOR SURVIVAL

"Where there is no vision," we read in Proverbs (29:18), "the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he." Here is a promise of individual salvation for each one who obeys the law of God, for each one who understands that there is only one perfect supreme power, God, Love, the author of flawless, spiritual creation.

The scribe indicates that vision is inextricably dependent upon the keeping of the law. While this law does require us to obey every moral precept, Christian Science teaches that its demands do not apply just to relative good conduct. Obedience to the whole law of God is a spiritual essential.

Christian Science demands that we gain an understanding of reality and infinity. It requires that we comprehend God as Life, Truth, and Love, the creator and governor of all being, including our own individual existence. It requires us to acknowledge spiritual life as our only real being. It urges us to see each idea of God as it really is in God. The law of God insists that we develop the spiritual senses and honor only that which the spiritual senses indicate as real and perfect.
