I wish to express my gratitude...

I wish to express my gratitude for the way in which Christian Science has taught me to think scientifically in emergencies. One day a police car arrived at my door to take me to the hospital, where my only daughter was lying unconscious because of a collision with a motor van. The kindly police officer asked me to sit down for a while, but this instantly reminded me that I needed no material support, since God is my strength. Besides, it was evident that my daughter was in need of all my understanding of God, Life, as taught in Christian Science.

On my arrival at the hospital, it appeared to me that my daughter had already passed on. I asked to be left alone with her for a few moments. In those moments I did not ask God to let my daughter live, as I might have prayed before I knew of Christian Science. I just knew and claimed that God was her Life, that Life is eternal, infinite, and that no accident or anything else could disrupt or injure that eternal, perfect Life, of which she was in reality an expression.

On page 495 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy says, "Let neither fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust, that the recognition of life harmonious —as Life eternally is—can destroy any painful sense of, or belief in, that which Life is not." I obeyed our Leader's instructions and was filled with a glorious sense of man's oneness with God, to which I clung steadfastly.
