LOVE IS LIFE

MARY BAKER EDDY said to one Primary class, as nearly as one of the students could recall: "God is Love; to love is to express God, and as God is eternal Life, if we always loved we should always express Life, and never have a belief of death. Hate is the opposite of Love, and leads to death; therefore never hate anything" (We Knew Mary Baker Eddy, Second Series, p. 24). What a privileged people we are to find in this statement, as in all the teachings of Christian Science, the truth of Love's allness as unassailable! To love is to be ever conscious of Life. To love is to be alive—to demonstrate Life eternal.

Love always sees all within its own conscious infinitude and from its sublime heights can know nothing unlovely—nothing unlike God. As our thought recognizes and abides in Love that is resistless, all-embracing, all-inclusive, the misty haziness of loveless, hopeless dreams is dissipated into its illusive nothingness. We become aware of the joys of Love, its divine energies, its life-giving purposes and health-bestowing qualities.

The consciousness that man, God's perfect idea, is forever enfolded in Love's allness and that his every thought is a response to the divine government of Principle nullifies the belief of a power or action capable of destroying Life. The devotion of thought to the teachings of Christian Science with an everfresh, ever-alive sense of consecration assures the ability to demonstrate its truths. As these truths of perfect God and perfect man are understood and practiced, abundant good is experienced, and we are conscious of the wideness, tenderness, and might of Love, the very essence of Life in its beauty and Christlikeness.
