It is with a great sense of gratitude...

It is with a great sense of gratitude that I submit this testimony. During my childhood there was much fear in my consciousness, and it increased with the years. I would retreat into an invisible shell to get away from unkindness or an unpleasant situation. Consequently there was very little happiness or joy in my experience.

Christian Science had been presented to me at an early age, but I was not sufficiently interested to give it much thought. However, the time came when I wished very much to know more about God and my relationship to Him. A copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was procured, and during my study of this book my thoughts gradually changed and became more spiritual. There was no particular thought of healing, just a great desire to know the truth. Fearfulness was overcome, and I enjoyed being with others.

Shortly after I began the earnest study of Christian Science my new-found understanding was put to a test. My son, who was a student in high school, injured his arm. Previously he had had a similar accident, in which his arm had been broken and a physician had taken care of him. This second accident appeared to be the same type of injury, but my son decided to depend entirely upon Christian Science treatment for help, and a practitioner was called. At first our fear was very strong, but the practitioner lovingly assured us of God's allness and stressed the spiritual fact that there are no accidents in God's kingdom. Our fears lessened, and early the following morning my son affirmed his complete faith in the healing power of Science. Then he fell into a peaceful sleep. When he awakened, the swelling and discoloration were gone, and he could move the arm. A week later he returned to basketball practice, for his arm was completely healed.
