I was brought up in Christian Science, and for this blessing I wish to express my gratitude.

An early proof of mental surgery brought much inspiration and a more dedicated study of Christian Science. A large swelling had developed on my lip. For eight months it had grown more unsightly, despite my application of Christian Science. In a moment of discouragement I yielded to the temptation to have a doctor's diagnosis. He informed me that the swelling was a cyst and that the only remedy would be an operation for its removal. But he could not promise that I would not be permanently scarred as a result of such an operation.

I discussed this condition with a Christian Science Sunday School friend, who said: "You did not have it before. How can it be real now?" Her clear realization of the temporal nature of discord removed the belief in the reality of this condition from my consciousness. Two days later the cyst opened and drained. It left no mark of its ever having existed.
