USING SPIRITUAL MEANS

The prophet Jeremiah pointed out a way of healing other than by material means. He showed the true and only way to be healed and saved when he prayed (17:14), "Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise." The use of spiritual means alone is the healing and saving way.

Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, never resorted to or depended upon material remedies for healing the sick and the sinning. His was the spiritual way, the Godlike way. Jesus' successful healing work was the natural result of his understanding of God and man.

Sometimes an individual who is not familiar with Christian Science will remark, "Why not use both Christian Science and medicine?" One might answer, "Because that is being double-minded." James wrote(1:8), "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." Christian Science is the Science of Spirit, God. Material medicine is a concept of the so-called mortal mind. It is not possible to mix successfully Christian Science and materia medica. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 181), "You weaken or destroy your power when you resort to any except spiritual means."
