"THE SCIENCE THAT OPERATES UNSPENT"

"The Science of all healing is based on Mind—the power of Truth over error," writes Mary Baker Eddy in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 154). Christian Science presents the practical method of utilizing Truth in healing the sick, reforming the sinner, and destroying the belief in death. Mind, God, is revealed as the only real power. This power operates universally and eternally according to fixed law. Science reveals that the power of Mind, God, is supreme, irresistible, unexpendable. Mind is at once the center and circumference of all being. It operates everywhere with equal, unwaning strength.

In Mind there is no opposing or even co-operating force, for Mind is One, Almighty, All-in-all. It is in the territory of so-called mortal belief only that there is any appearance of another power. This counterfeit force never appears in divine consciousness, and it lacks the aspect of continuity, even in the realm of belief. It is temporary and wholly expendable.

When one throws a baseball through the air, it quickly loses the propelling force and falls to the ground because of frictional opposition and gravitational pull. The power of thrust as applied to the ball is expended and remains inert until the ball is hurled again. Like any other material force, this power is obviously limited. Mrs. Eddy declares in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (P. 293), "The material so-called gases and forces are counterfeits of the spiritual forces of divine Mind, whose potency is Truth, whose attraction is Love, whose adhesion and cohesion are Life, perpetuating the eternal facts of being."
