With a grateful heart I give...
With a grateful heart I give thanks for Christian Science. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of this Science, writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 377), "The author never knew a patient who did not recover when the belief of the disease had gone." I was a patient who recovered "when the belief of the disease had gone." I was suffering from a so-called incurable case of cancer of the mouth and throat. According to materia medica, the disease would soon take my life. Through the consecrated work of a Christian Science practitioner, to whom I shall always be deeply grateful. I learned that God is my Life, and in consequence my life could not be destroyed. I learned too that in Christian Science all disease can be classified as curable, since matter is not substance, as I had firmly believed it to be.
Through close communion with God I gained a more correct view of man's real status, and this improved thinking loosed me from the bondage of fear. My healing was slow, but I learned many lessons for which I feel very grateful. Also I am grateful to the practitioners I had at different times and for their loving help in my journey from sense to Soul.
I told my family nothing of the ordeal through which I was passing, and I was able to carry on with my household duties without taking any time off. The only comment about my condition was made when my husband remarked that I looked ill and that I was losing weight. He said he often awoke in the night and heard my labored breathing; so he was feeling alarmed about me. I took care after that to slip out of bed and go downstairs when I felt very ill, for I thought that I could carry on better if there were no more comments. From then on nothing further was said, although there are five other members in the family. I kept in touch constantly with a practitioner, and I grew stronger spiritually until I was able to do as Science and Health says on page 393, "Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action."
