THE CALL TO SERVICE
In an outstanding address given in Chicago, Mary Baker Eddy said (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 101): "Christian Science and the senses are at war. It is a revolutionary struggle." And she added that this warfare is for the establishment of holiness, of health, and for the attainment of heaven. Every man, woman, and child is called to take his part today in this great revolutionary struggle. No one is exempt from Christ's call to service.
Evil in its various forms is continually repeating its tempting call to everyone to bow down to matter and to its allurements, as it did in Jesus' day. It says, "Bow down to me, and I will give you health, happiness, and peace." Many have followed this siren call, some willingly and some ignorantly. Experience has proved and still proves that the call of evil must be resisted. Its seeming power can be overcome only through obedience to the law of God, of Spirit, as revealed in Christian Science—through the heeding of Christ's call and serving Truth.
