Vitality in Our Teaching

"From beginning to end, the Scriptures are full of accounts of the triumph of Spirit, Mind, over matter." So writes Mary Baker Eddy in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 139). It is these accounts that give vitality to the Scriptures. And it is these accounts that give vitality to the Sunday School lessons. Achievement and triumph appeal greatly to children. This is the reason little children delight in fairy tales, even though they know the stories are only make-believe. In Sunday School the learn of actual triumphs of real significance. And they are taught that they can share in these great works in proportion to their obedience to the law of God.

The alert Sunday School teacher emphasizes the healing power of Christian Science and helps the children to use their understanding in the overcoming of all phases of discord in their daily living. It should be clear to the child that just as Christ Jesus established his claim to the Messiahship through the works which he did, so by the healing works of Christian Science Mrs. Eddy established her claim that this Science is the Comforter which Jesus promised.

It is well that pupils be reminded occasionally of the chapter on Fruitage in Science and Health. Here are one hundred pages of accounts of healing accomplished without the help of a practitioner, all resulting from the better understanding of God and man and of man's relationship to God, gained by the reading of the book. Also it should be pointed out that testimonies of healing constitute an important part of our Wednesday meetings and our periodicals.
