In Psalms (40:1, 2) we read: "I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit." Referring to the word "pit" a Bible concordance says, "This word is used metaphorically for deep trouble, and for the depths of hell." How well I remember the pit from which I was delivered!

I believed that I had but a short time to live. I had suffered from pains in the chest for seven years, nosebleeds for five years, a skin rash for three years, and a number of minor conditions. Moreover, I had indulged the smoking habit for fifteen years and the drinking habit for ten years. An acquaintance of mine, after hearing of my difficulties, briefly explained to me what Christian Science is. This friend also loaned me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I read this textbook for the next several days.

Soon I found that I had to take a definite stand with regard to medicine, for I saw that if I depended on God, Spirit, I could not be depending on matter also, I accepted the truths of Christian Science and threw all my medicine away. One by one the ailments left me, and I found myself healed.
