I am increasingly grateful to God...
I am increasingly grateful to God for Christian Science, for our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and for all the good that is ours today through her wonderful discovery of this Science of being.
At seventeen years of age I had a great need for this truth. A specialist whom I consulted diagnosed my difficulty as a tumor of the glands and advised surgery. At this point I was led to visit a Christian Science practitioner, who told me to read the first chapter, entitled "Prayer," in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.
I thought that the first sentence was the most remarkable statement I had ever read. It says (p. 1), "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." I continued with Christian Science treatment and studied earnestly, and after a few months the tumor disappeared.
