The study of Christian Science...

The study of Christian Science has enriched my life and given me a knowledge of God as near and dear, "a very present help in trouble" (Ps. 46:1). As one who has not always known of this Science, I can fully appreciate the beauty and order it brings into our lives.

Truly, as Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health, p. 323), "The effects of Christian Science are not so much seen as felt," for Christian Science is a transforming agent molding our nature with love and healing our diseases with the knowledge of God's perfection. It would be difficult to say which healing in Christian Science has impressed me the most, since often a healing is the unnoticed consequence of the spiritualization of thought, of the drawing near to God. But all of these healings have proved what Mrs. Eddy discloses to us of the truth of being. And that is one of the facets that attracted me most to Christian Science, namely that it is provable, that it is not a dogma promulgated by a human authority, but something that can be made one's own, as any sincere student of this Science can quickly establish to his own satisfaction.

Among the outstanding healings in our family has been that of my young son, who was healed of a fracture of the skull. Another convincing healing was one in my own experience. From early youth I had been susceptible to colds which often resulted in sinus trouble. Although their frequency abated when I came into Christian Science, I did not fully prove my dominion over them until the full meaning of Mrs. Eddy's provable statement was admitted into consciousness (Science and Health, p. 384): "When the fear subsides and the conviction abides that you have broken no law, neither rheumatism, consumption, nor any other disease will ever result from exposure to the weather. In Science this is an established fact which all the evidence before the senses can never overrule."
