My first healing in Christian Science...

My first healing in Christian Science was that of chronic appendicitis, for which I had had medical help over a period of six years. I had tried various treatments, and always an operation was suggested, but I would not consent to it. Shortly after I took up the study of Christian Science I had another painful attack. I was able to reach my copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and I began to read it. Before I had finished the chapter on Prayer, I was entirely free from pain. I have never had a return of appendicitis. Until that time I had been wearing glasses and had been told I must wear them all my life. I discovered them six months later in a cabinet and have never needed them since.

I am grateful that I have learned to study the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly the very first thing in the morning to give me strength, protection, and guidance each day. After having studied and prayed to be able to subscribe for the literature, I did so on the quarterly payment plan. I had only two dollars left. I was working on a commission basis, and on leaving the Reading Room I met an investor who said he had been expecting me to call him for two months. He asked me to be sure to see him that day. When I went to see him, I made a sale on which my commission was one hundred and fifty dollars, which to me was like a fortune. Never from that time, twenty-seven years ago, have I lacked money for the periodicals.

I am grateful that adversities have forced me to grow spiritually. Each one has been a steppingstone. Grief, hate, fear, resentment, criticism, and false pride have been overcome. Warts, burns, and children's diseases are a few of the conditions that have been healed.
