WOULD WE CLIMB THE MOUNTAIN?

Would we dwell on the mountaintop of Truth, in the clear atmosphere of spiritual realization, with an unlimited view of beauty, harmony, and holiness? Would we realize the joy of the healing power of the Christ, Truth, and exercise our God-given freedom over the ills of the flesh? Or do we believe that we are dwelling in the valley, shut in on every side by limitations, sickness, hate, and resentment, or fear of losing material possessions?

If we would exchange this negative view for the mountaintop of Truth, then we must climb. The way may be rough, and our path may be hedged about with obstructions, but there is a way. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, points it out. She says (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 328): "He alone ascends the hill of Christian Science who follows the Way-shower, the spiritual presence and idea of God. Whatever obstructs the way,—causing to stumble, fall, or faint, those mortals who are striving to enterthe path,—divine Love will remove; and uplift the fallen and strengthen the weak. Therefore, give up thy earth-weights."

The earth weights of fear, hate, and ignorance must be relinquished in order to tread the pathway up "the hill of Christian Science." Jesus taught that Love is the way: first, to love God with all the heart, and second, to love one's neighbor. Fear claims to make one sick or to have power and dominion only if one accepts it as real; but fear has no origin or existence in God. One needs to turn away from the lying suggestions of fear to the truth that God is ever-present good and with courage to face the error and denounce it as nothing. The Christian Scientist learns to replace fear and its material evidence with the truth of spiritual man.
