For some twenty years I attended services in a Church of Christ, Scientist, and with the help of practitioners, experienced numerous physical healings. As a businessman, I discovered that when the truth is rightly applied, it will solve problems associated with the management of a business. Notwithstanding the blessings which Christian Science brought to me and to my business activities throughout those many years, I never became a member of the church because of social drinking and the cigarette habit.

While I felt capable of ridding myself of social drinking, I maintained no expectancy of ever being able to overcome the tobacco habit, because I had often unsuccessfully attempted to do so. Therefore I resigned myself to the privileges of attending church services and of receiving the aid of practitioners, without ever expecting to become a member of the church.

Then one day among some of my wife's books I noticed a copy of "We Knew Mary Baker Eddy," First Series. The title sounded interesting, and since it was not a very thick book and I had a little time on my hands, I started to read it. While I did not know it then, today I fully realize that as I opened the cover of that little book, I was opening the door to a deep sense of gratitude to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy. In turn, this gratitude was to reveal to me the liberating law of Truth and lead me into freedom.
