JOY IN GOD'S APPOINTING

While talking with a friend who had been greatly disappointed in another's decision and actions, a student of Christian Science was led to seek in the Bible and in the works of Mary Baker Eddy the way to help, not only this one, but the many who may be unhappy because of disappointment concerning something in their own experience or in the conduct of another.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 326), "If we wish to follow Christ, Truth, it must be in the way of God's appointing." The way of Christ, Truth, is the harmonious, satisfying way, and God is always ready to appoint and to lead and direct us in the way. When God directs, there are no disappointments.

There may be a failure to realize some cherished ambition, or the consummation of some plan may be delayed or found to be impossible. Sometimes human affection has prompted too much planning for others, or perhaps too much has been expected of another at a certain time. All of these experiences arise from personal sense, or a wrong sense of person, either oneself or another. Christ, Truth, presents man as the son of God, not material but spiritual, not mortal but immortal. This fact understood will enable one, happily and in peace, to determine the right human standpoint from which to proceed in any experience.
