PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE
Today we frequently hear the expression "peaceful coexistence." To a Christian Scientist, this phrase might be related to the perpetually harmonious and peaceful coexistence of God and His idea, man. Through the study of Christian Science we are able to gain a knowledge of man's eternal coexistence with divine Principle, God. We see in Science the indestructibility of the spiritual universe, and we see its influence in our human affairs.
That God and man coexist was proved in the experience of a student of Christian Science some years ago while he was managing a large manufacturing plant. Cooperation between supervisors and labor was at a very low ebb, and as manager, he felt the burden of the entire situation. The condition became so acute after many attempts to straighten out the differences that he became ill and was confined to his bed with a serious intestinal disturbance. A Christian Science practitioner was called, and he started prayerful work to prove the harmony and perfection of man, his oneness, or unity, with God.
It was recognized that there are not in reality many differing mortal opinions, attempting to control divine Mind, but that Mind exerts its influence on the affairs of mankind, and these affairs include employee relationships. Since man reflects the All-God, he represnets the one Mind. Divine Principle, Mind, was recognized as the only creator, and all the individuals concerned as actually coexistent with intelligence, Mind. Almost immediately things changed for the better. Not only was cooperation restored, but a deeper sense of love, encompassing all, was felt.
