MAINTAINING DOMINION

Citizens of many modern states rightly cherish their civil liberties. They revere the historic documents which epitomize in memorable form the centuries-long struggle for human freedom, for justice, for government by law. The inspired Word of the Bible is rightly adjudged to set forth the fundamental truths which base all human freedom and righteous law. One of the greatest of its timeless statements is found in the first chapter of Genesis (verses 26-28), in which we are told that God made man in His own likeness and gave man dominion.

It is the spiritual truth of these statements which underlies and gives validity to the freedom of all self-governing peoples. And only as men discern in some degree the truth of man's dominion do they demonstrate human freedom. Although Christ Jesus presented a complete illustration of spiritual dominion, it was not until Mary Baker Eddy gave the world "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" that the full meaning of Jesus' works and of the Bible statements concerning man's dominion was set forth so that their spiritual significance could be understood and utilized by mankind.

The study of Christian Science awakens the student to the vital significance of man's God-given dominion with its infinite possibilities. Inherent in the divine mandate was the fact that man's dominion is eternally maintained by God. That we may understand man's dominion, it is necessary not only to understand man's relation to God, but also to understand the nature of God and man. And this is made possible to everyone through the study and demonstration of Christian Science
