CHRISTIANITY AND SCIENCE

Today Christians may well pause and give prayerful consideration to finding the best means of protecting and cherishing their understanding of God, which enables them to utilize divine power in their human affairs. Truth itself, spiritual, indestructible truth, must be found and pondered and obeyed, if we are to be successful in counteracting the subtle half-truths or falsities that are broadcast by materialistic. systems.

Where is this spiritual truth to be found? It is to be found in the Bible, which reveals the one living and true God, to whom Christ Jesus bore witness in his life and teachings, and in his healing works. Did not Jesus declare before Pilate (John 18:37), "To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth"? Can we not conclude that God is the Principle or source of all truth? Christian Science shows that the understanding of God as Truth is essential if our prayers are to be effective.

In human language the word "truth" is often used synonymously with the knowledge which material science presents. Then we are justified in concluding that the truth of Christianity is the knowledge or Science of Christianity. When we hear it said that modern inventions in the hands of unprincipled men could well destroy civilization, we are led to consider the need for science and Christianity to progress hand in hand. Science must be Christian or it will be self-destroyed. And Christianity, it becomes apparent, must be scientific if it is to be practical, provable.
