I wish to express gratitude for...

I wish to express gratitude for the fact that God is "a very present help in trouble," as is stated in the Bible (Ps. 46:1). This fact was proved to me several years ago in an unforgettable experience which took place at a large Army post, where my husband was serving with the armed forces.

A serious accident occurred to me one morning just outside our quarters. The first thought that came to me was: "This is it. You're done for." Breathing was difficult, and I could not move my legs at all. I sensed that consciousness was leaving me, but this angel message came to me: "You have never left God's presence."

I do not remember how I got into our quarters, but I do recall pulling the telephone down to me by the cord and whispering to the operator for help. The next thing I remember was that the doctor from the base hospital was examining me. He told my husband that there were injuries which would necessitate a cast and possible confinement to bed for a long period of time. This information frightened my husband, and he called my mother by long-distance telephone. She in turn called a Christian Science practioner and asked for help for me. In the meantime I was holding to the fact that man, as God's reflection, can never suffer an accident, since, as the Bible states (Eccl. 3:15), "God requireth that which is past."
