RADIO PROGRAM No. 97 - Strength Available Right Where You Are

On this program Charles Hopgood of St. John, New Brunswick, told of his own experience, as follows:

It was at the close of World War II. I was a theological student at a Canadian university at the time, but I couldn't accept the concept of God I was being taught and was going to have to teach others. In addition, I was suffering from a physical condition of great weakness. I talked over my problem with the young lady I was going with at the time. She happened to be a Christian Scientist, and she suggested I try Christian Science. In it I found such a new and satisfying idea of God that I started to study and apply its teachings.

During the war I had been turned down by all the Canadian armed services because I was in such poor shape, being extremely thin, weak, and generally lacking vitality. From my earliest childhood I had spent a good deal of my time in bed, or under a doctor's care, never able to do strenuous things, and always trying to gain strength in some way. All this was supposed to be due to my height— at 14 I was over six foot and I kept growing. But as I studied Christian Science I began to get a different idea of strength as something that comes from God. I left school and moved to the United States and was drafted into the Army. To my surprise I was classified as A-l, physically fit in every way. Then I realized that I had been healed of this problem of weakness. While in the Army, I had an opportunity to see what a complete physical change had occurred.
