KNOWING, SEEING, BEING

How comforting is the knowledge of Truth. No doubts, inhibitions, fears, or perplexities can ever be associated with true knowing. Truth is sure, reliable, provable, because true. Our first recognition of the fact revealed in Christian Science that God is Truth brings with it enlightenment and understanding, together with the power of demonstration. Many times we remember with gratitude Christ Jesus' words to his disciples (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Here is a definite promise.

Knowing what is true brings freedom from that which is untrue, because whatever is untrue is unlike God. We see that Jesus prefaced this promise with the qualification, "If ye continue in my word." The Word is the pure expression of God, Truth. As we continue in our right knowing, trusting the Word of God, we experience freedom, which is our heritage as God's divine idea.

How do we cognize Truth? With our spiritual senses. Mary Baker Eddy tells us on page 505 of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "Spiritual sense is the discernment of spiritual good."
