More than twenty-five years ago...
More than twenty-five years ago Christian Science was presented to me by a neighbor who saw that doctors were not helping me. I had been in bed seven months, and two specialists said I would never be well again unless I had a very serious operation. I was afraid of an operation; so I willingly and gratefully consented to try Christian Science. My mother called a practitioner and asked for help for me. Improvement began immediately, and in three months I was doing my own work and caring for my baby.
Later, a severe case of shingles was manifested on my body. At the time there were three persons in my home who were openly opposed to Christian Science. After they were in bed, I would go downstairs and study and pray far into the night. In two weeks I was completely healed, proving that "one with God is a majority."
Several years ago a loved one passed on suddenly, and I shall never forget the love and kindness shown me by my teacher, association members, and other Christian Science friends. I felt surrounded by loving thoughtfulness, which helped in the healing of grief.
More recently I had to leave my home and friends and to seek new ones in a strange part of the country. This was a hard problem for me, because I held on to personality and the past; but I gained my freedom through my gratitude for my new home, church, and friends.
My richest blessings are membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, class instruction, and the association meetings, as well as the inspiration of our periodicals. I know of no way to express my gratitude for Christian Science except to fulfill God's requirement as stated by Micah (6:8), "To do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God."—(Mrs.) Cecile J. Esser, Jacksonville, Florida.
In verifying my wife's statements, I wish to voice my own humble gratitude for Christian Science. I became interested through my mother over forty years ago, and all during these years Science has been my constant help physically, mentally, and otherwise. I have had many healings, for which I am deeply grateful.
Christian Science was my help and encouragement a few years ago during the time I was establishing a new home and getting started in a business of my own in a part of the country which was new to me. I am sincerely grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church and for class instruction.
