Jesus said (Mark 13:37), "What...

Jesus said (Mark 13:37), "What I say unto you I say unto all, Watch." And Mrs. Eddy reminds us in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 128), "Watch, and pray daily that evil suggestions, in whatever guise, take no root in your thought nor bear fruit." During the many years I have been a student of Christian Science, it has been proved to me that to accept in thought any appearance of evil as real or as something to be feared is to accept a needless burden. When our thought keeps active with the truth of God, evil suggestions cannot take root in it or bear fruit.

One evening after attending the cinema in company with my husband, I was silently and somewhat bitterly criticizing the type of picture being shown there. These words of Mrs. Eddy came to me (Science and Health, p. 260): "If we array thought in mortal vestures, it must lose its immortal nature." Just then we stepped into the street to cross over. We had almost reached the opposite walk when I saw the headlights of an oncoming car which was not slowing for the red signal light. In that instant, truths which I had learned in Christian Science of man's oneness, or unity, with God flooded my consciousness. The Lesson-Sermon for that week in the Christian Science Quarterly was "God the Only Cause and Creator." I realized that since God, good, is the only cause, no accident could really occur.

Though the car struck me and knocked me down, I was completely unafraid. Another passage in Science and Health (p. 14) began to unfold its wonderful meaning: "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints."
