One evening when I came home...

One evening when I came home I found our second oldest son King on the divan in great distress. While he had been helping his mother clean the divan with a portable vacuum cleaner, his index finger had slipped through the slot where the rotating fan was revoking and had been severed at the first joint.

I quoted to him Mrs. Eddy's words in Science and Health (p. 489): "When the unthinking lobster loses its claw, the claw grows again. If the Science of Life were understood, it would be found that the senses of Mind are never lost and that matter has no sensation. Then the human limb would be replaced as readily as the lobster's claw,-—not with an artificial limb, but with the genuine one." Christian Science treatment was requested of a practitioner, and I constantly endeavored to help the boy hold his thought to the perfection of his true being.

Progress toward healing soon became apparent. It was necessary for us to bandage the finger daily, because our son played as though he had a normal finger and the bandages became quite soiled. During the course of the healing he was encouraged not to look at his finger, and he was constantly reminded of the spiritual facts of man's perfect being. Within a comparatively short time nine fingernails in succession grew and fell off the finger. The tenth nail was a normal one.
