"INSTRUCTION IN RIGHTEOUSNESS"

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

For the young Christian Scientist who has been well taught in his home and Sunday School the study of the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly is considered an important part of his education. Every student knows that to attain proficiency in any subject it is necessary to do more than merely read its textbooks. The student must also gain a working knowledge of his subject through the practical application of its rules. This is especially true regarding the study and application of Christian Science, the Science of Life.

We have a wonderful privilege in being provided weekly with a Lesson-Sermon which is of vital importance to our health, happiness, and well-being, because it is a weekly course in spiritualization of thought, in right living, right doing. It unfolds the infinite truth of God, man, and the universe. This "instruction in righteousness," such as Paul spoke of to his beloved Timothy (II Tim. 3:16), is given through the two textbooks, the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. These two books Mrs. Eddy ordained as the only pastor of the Church of Christ, Scientist.

This instruction is not founded on human opinions, which vary from time to time. The Explanatory Note read before each service states, "The canonical writings, together with the word of our textbook, corroborating and explaining the Bible texts in their spiritual import and application to all ages, past, present, and future, constitute a sermon undivorced from truth, uncontaminated and unfettered Inhuman hypotheses, and divinely authorized."
