I should like to express my deep gratitude to Christian Science for all the good which it has brought me. By June, 1953, I had submitted to surgery three times in less than three years. I was very weak, weighing only about one hundred pounds. A lung X ray revealed an infection and two blood clots, and I was suffering from pleurisy accompanied by a fever.

One day as my son was going by a Reading Room display window, he noticed something about the healing power of Christian Science. He asked for information and brought me a copy of The Herald of Christian Science (French Edition). Reading the Herald was truly a comfort to me. I read over and over again this sentence it quoted from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 495): "When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea." A month later I had gained ten pounds, and my general condition was improved. Another X-ray picture, which I was required to have, showed that the lung was normal and that the blood clots had disappeared.

In 1950 I had been operated on for a cyst, and a specialist had told me that in spite of the operation I would continue to suffer to some extent. He added that if after several years the pain increased, there would be no treatment for me except surgery. During the following three years I did suffer from it, and in addition, I was unable to lift my arm or to exert myself. In October, 1953, the pain increased greatly, and since I was a beginner in Christian Science, my fear also increased. I therefore asked for help from a practitioner.
